When we put two groups together, we add. The answer is called the sum.

Subtracting is taking away
When some go away, we subtract. The answer is the difference.

Number bonds for 10
Numbers that pair to make 10: 1+9 · 2+8 · 3+7 · 4+6 · 5+5.

Doubles
When you add a number to itself, that's a double: 2+2=4, 5+5=10, 8+8=16.

💡 Doubles are a shortcut for adding equal groups.
