When some go away, we subtract. The answer is the difference.
๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค โ ๐ค๐ค = ๐ค๐ค๐ค 5 โ 2 = 3
๐ก The minus sign โ means 'take away'.
Numbers that pair to make 10: 1+9 ยท 2+8 ยท 3+7 ยท 4+6 ยท 5+5.
1+9 ยท 2+8 ยท 3+7 4+6 ยท 5+5
๐ก Memorise these โ they make adding faster!
When you add a number to itself, that's a double: 2+2=4, 5+5=10, 8+8=16.
โ + โ = ๐
๐ก Doubles are a shortcut for adding equal groups.
Read carefully. Find what's joining (add) or going away (subtract).
